On the Second Anniversary of October 7th

It is now two years since October 7th 2023.

For me, that day was the return of the Nazis.

October-7 is one of the most recorded and documented massacres of modern history. The details of which are so dreadful that they amount to an attack on humanity itself, on our decency.

I watched the documentary “We Will Dance Again” (with raw footage of the October-7 attacks, the Nova music festival and the aftermath). The violence was horrific and the perpetrated by maniacs who were truly enjoying themselves. I would recommend pursuing Lord Roberts’ detailed Parliamentary report on the October-7 attack.

One thing that has stayed with me about October-7 is the terrible realisation of just how vulnerable Israelis were that day.

So, for me, this is one of the most important issue of our times.

The security of the only democracy in the Middle East and sanctuary of the Jewish people means so much. We cannot afford to lose.

Since October-7, there has been a growing antisemitism on the progressive left which, I think, has inched closer to the centre left now. We’re all aware of the nasty strains of antisemitism on the right, but it amazes me still how many on the Left can regard a genocidal rampage as some kind of bona fide resistance movement. Then, proudly waving terrorist flags up-and-down our streets and haranguing Jews.

So many disguise their antisemitism as anti-Israel or anti-Zionist concerns. But we’re not fooled. See below, there are “pro-Palestinian” (aka: “pro-Hamas” because they never criticise Hamas) protests on Oct-7.

It’s like going to protest about Israel outside Auschwitz!

  1. Thank you again Liam. A post like this gives us some air to breathe these days, gives us hope that there are those who understand us in such a hostile world.

  2. Today was the 7th of October 2025, the second anniversary of the massacres of Jews in Israel. People gathered in Melbourne shules, parks and galleries to pay tribute to the beautiful people who were slaughtered in Israel.

Hamas killers breached the Israel border, attacking military bases and massacring civilians. The IDF counted 6,000 Gazan attackers breaching the border. And the IDF report estimated 1,000 Gazans fired rockets from the Gaza Strip. 1,200 Jews were killed by the attacks, especially young people relaxing at the wonderful Supernova rock concert.
It was a massacre the Nazis would have been proud of.

That did indeed come as a shock. I would never have thought that such a massive attack could happen in such a security-conscious country. But it also reminds us of what lunacy it would be to create another such independent nest of vipers in the West Bank, just a few miles from Israel's largest city and surrounding its capital on three sides.

I don't think most Westerners quite realize how small Israel is. Especially here in the US, where we're used to being able to travel a thousand miles and still be within our own country, it's hard to imagine a country where almost everyone lives within ten or twenty miles of murderously hostile territory.

It's not only that there is an infestation of seething anti-Semitism on the radical left. It's that, as far as I've ever seen, the political-activist-left blogosphere (and activists in general) refuse to condemn or even to acknowledge this. And, yes, the traditional nasty anti-Semitism on the far right is as virulent as ever. It is a huge object lesson on why it's vital that Israel exists.

  4. In some ways Hamas during the attack was actually worse than the Nazis. Certainly the Nazis killed far more people, but the extreme sadism of the October 7 mutilations, burnings, and killings, and the inhuman glee the Hamas men displayed, was something not seen even among most Nazis in their time. And if Hamas had had the ability to kill six million instead of twelve hundred, they certainly would have done so.

  5. Attending a “pro-Palestine” rally on October 7th is not a gesture of peace or justice. It’s a grotesque insult to the victims of that massacre and a moral inversion of history

  6. It was a fateful day. I cannot predict the eventual outcome.
