February Update: The Job Search Continues ...

Hello bloggers,

Well, I have had some interviews for law firms, and then rejections. Sigh. I’ll get there, one day. The problem is that the market is too competitive and too many applications of a fairly competent nature.

In other news, I’ve missed this community and blog. I missed sharing my notes on art, news and bits-and-bobs, and I missed curating my thoughts here.

I have given this blog a breath of fresh air. I hope you all like it. My header is by my favourite artist, Pieter de Hooch.

I received help in creating a new “subscribe by email” option which is interesting.

We have some interesting art news in London for 2026: Lucian Freud at the National Portrait Gallery, Seurat at the Courtauld, Bayeux Tapestry at the British Museum (Sept 2026, must get), Michaelina Wautier at the Royal Academy, Frida Kahlo at the Tate Modern, and the National Gallery has blockbuster exhibitions on Zurbaran (The Golden Age of Spain) and Jan van Eyck (The Portraits, 2nd must see of the year!!).

I have a draft post on my recent NG visit to see Radical Harmony: Neo Impressionists that I look forward to sharing with you all shortly.

This was a photo of me by a famous Georges Seurat:

  1. I was just wondering today how your job search was going, and now you post! Sheesh, you must be psychic. Glad to hear you're getting interviews, that's half the battle. Soon you'll be in the right place at the right time and the job will be yours! Good luck!

Sounds like you'll have some absolutely marvelous exhibitions to go to in London this year! I'd go to any of them! But I would especially love to see the Bayeux Tapestry, women's art in action! I just recently saw an interesting documentary about it by Lucy Worsley.

    1. HI AC, yep. It's draining, and nothing to show for it ... so far anyway. :(

  3. Good to see you back. I follow Christa Zaat on F/B and she is showing a lot of Dutch paintings at the moment.

  4. Many of my university friends have struggled to secure employment after completing their law degrees; increasingly, it seems that success depends less on merit and more on access to influential networks and connections.

You will be employed eventually, it's just the matter of waiting and down here it's often who knows whom, but not always.

  6. My grandson finally landed a job after more than 170 applications. He was a good applicant, a first class physics degree and a distinction in his M.Sc. Keep going - something will turn up and your face will fit.

  8. It’s so great to see you back blogging, your art updates are such a treat! The exhibitions sound remarkable; do you have a top recommendation, or is it challenging to select just one? May your weekend be filled with inspiration and may the ideal legal opportunity soon present itself. I just shared a new travel post, and you’re invited to peek: www.melodyjacob.com

  9. We (in Melbourne) have the pleasure of seeing a world-class exhibition once or twice a year. Something I try to get to, except for the 3 years of Covid lockdown.

But you have mentioned at least 7 exhibitions in London alone. I would sell my molars in order to see the Zurbaran.. oh yes, and the Frida Kahlo.

  10. It's nice to see you back blogging.
Job hunting is not fun is it!
My Grandson (last year) had to keep applying, applying, applying and eventually managed to get a position in a large firm and seems well settled.
So keep on with your search, keep on applying and I'm sure you will be successful.

    All the best Jan
