Hello everyone,
I’m now in Rome (since yesterday) for a week with my sweetheart. As part of a 2 week Italy trip.
✲✲✲
Early this morning , Marcelo and I visited the Basilica of Saint John Lateran (the oldest public church in Rome).
They let me into the Basilica with shorts on!!!
The fresco dome of the Byzantine tradition.
✲✲✲
I’ve been in Ostia (seaside town 30mins away from Rome) for the past week.
I’m off to the Vatican Museum tomorrow.

What a wonderful place to be. Enjoy your vacation Liam.

DeleteLooks like a fab vacay! Did you see the feral cats at the Colosseum? They were my favourite part, LOL. They are superstars! And enjoy the Vatican Museums tomorrow and the brief glimpses you'll get of its vast collections. Don't miss the Sistine Chapel and Michelangelo's Pieta inside St. Peter's.
ReplyDeleteHi Debra
DeleteOh no. I didn't actually see any cats.
Mind you it is 33 degrees today. And we both managed to find some shade here and there to gasp!.
🙂
Yeah, cats are smart -- they were probably all napping in the shade somewhere!
DeleteI was looking at Siena's religious art from a very specific era: 1300-1350. I am not sure when exactly when the apse dome of Basilica of Saint John Lateran was completed but the gold is delicious, as are Christ, the cross, the Virgin Mary and saints. And reminds me very much of Siena. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteThey're exquisite Hels. I'll probably upload more when I return but I love these golden domes..I'm planning to visit the Haha Sophia later this year and that Byzantine dome.
DeleteI also have to write up a report on a recent blockbuster exhibition on Sienese art at the National Gallery. Something I think you'll love to see. 👍

Continue to enjoy your holiday, shorts and all.
ReplyDeleteThank you 👍😊
DeleteRome! I'm envious. So much to see there. I hope it isn't too hot, though -- they can't blame you for the shorts.
ReplyDeleteHi infidel
DeleteIt's 33 degrees today!! 🥵🤯
I'm more used to English weather!
Vatican expect trousers , if in this weather!
Lido di Ostia. The place where Pier Paolo Pasolini was murdered in 1975. A near and beloved friend of my family.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your Italy trip.
Chiara
Hi Chiara;
DeleteThanks for that comment. I'd never even heard of this gentleman. A public intellectual indeed. And what a horrific nasty death. I'll do some reading online about this more. Did you meet him? I assume your family knew him? This must have been traumatic.

I'm gobsmacked that you never heard of him. A great poet, a writer and producer of incredibles films. I was 15 when he was assassinated. My father was in the film business , so Pier Paolo was close to our family.

Jenny and I have been to the Colosseum, also the Sistine Chapel. We missed out on the Vatican Museum though. Happy hols!
ReplyDeleteHi Nick,
DeleteThat's lovely. I'll upload some photos and thoughts from the Vatican museum. I actually intended to see the blockbuster Caravaggio exhibition in Rome but missed tickets. I was then too late to visit the Borghese gallery too. Apparently they have a limited set of tickets for each day which sell out very fast . So I've been a bit upset about those, especially the Caravaggio one.
But we can't see everything, can we.

DeleteHow wonderful to be there in Rome. Such beautiful art there in the photos, and heaps more to come. Enjoy your time as I'm sure you will.
ReplyDeleteBe safe and take care.
It looks a lovely happy holiday for you both. It also looks hot, enjoy what's left and come home safe.
ReplyDeleteThanks 👍
DeleteWow, I love your pictures. Have fun!
ReplyDeleteThank you Mary.
